(Guest post by Jana Fantová, the spokeswoman of the Brno Cultural Centre.)
Brno Cultural Centre prepares several music, film and theatre festivals on various city locations, in addition to a series of concerts at the Old Town Hall or festivals of original films in cinemas Art and Scala.
The Musical Delicatessen cycle re-opens in January – old music concerts at the Old Town Hall and on other sites, e.g. in Brno underground areas. The Project 100, showing the best of the world’s film production, will start in cinema Scala. Films are shown in original versions.
In February, cinema Art will run a festival of films from the north, called Northern Film Club, and a festival of Spanish films called La Película. Shown in original version with subtitles.
The International Tourist Guide Day is celebrated during the 19 and 20 February weekend. Several sightseeing tours in Brno sights will be offered by experienced tourist guides. Guiding will also be offered in Russian and German. Tours start at the Old Town Hall’s yard.
Prominent Czech violin player Jaroslav Svěcený will give a concert at the Besední dům concert hall on 14 March.
Those who are interested in history and city sights may have a look into Brno underground areas. The first part that opened to the public, the Mint Master Cellar on Dominikánské náměstí square, is open daily, except Mondays; and a labyrinth of corridors, passages and cellars below the Zelný trh market square will be opened on 1 April.
In summer, we can look for open-air festivals, above all. Ethnic and world music festival Babylonfest will be held on Moravské náměstí square at the turn of May and June and in June Brno will host international festival Brno Theatre World in its theatres, squares and streets. The International Guitar Festival is traditionally held in August, bringing top flamenco stars from all over the world, particularly Andalusia.
Detailed program and dates will be published gradually on Brno Cultural Centre’s web site:
