Being hit into stomachs, both victims were hospitalised and their conditions remain very serious.

The gunman was approximately 175 cm (5 feet, 9 inches) high, 30 years old, with black hair and a beard. He was wearing a checkered shirt and high heels boots.

Here is something to think about during Christmas: the police found out that there was a 5 years old girl living with her homeless parents in a slum near train station in quarter Maloměřice.

The family lived in a shanty constructed from bricks and canvas; both parents are told to be heavy drinkers.

This is where the baby has lived.

Although the girl had been healthy, she was placed to a creche and her mother was arrested, as she had not provided her daughter the medical care that was required by Czech laws.

However – mother and daughter are still seeing each other and authorities try to help them both to live together soon in better conditions. I hope this story is going to have a happy end.

Do-it-yourself memorial of Stefan Shoedel at Kamenná kolonie

Stefan’s ears and head hurted so much he was not able to walk. However, an ambulance operator refused to send a full-value ambulance car to help him. According to Stefan’s friends, the doctor who finally arrived to Kamenná kolonie was arrogant and did not offer the sick man adequate service, because Stefan had dreadlocks and looked like a junkie.

The expat, who had been working at a post office and according to his friends “paying taxes”, died two days after — 30 minutes after his neighbors called another ambulance, which arrived 90 minutes later!

The community of “Kamenka” isn’t careless about the controversial death of a young man. There’s an improvised memorial next to “Duck pub”, and what’s more, Stefan’s neighbors made a public prosecutor to file a criminal complaint. The incident is now being investigated by police. Stefan’s Facebook page is still active, which makes the whole thing somehow even more sad.

The number of cars stolen in Brno per year have dropped again – to 444 for 2008. The real number is even lower, as many people have destroyed their cars and then reported a theft to avoid paying new “eco” tax.

On the other hand, thieves are still interested in stealing luggage from cars – mostly GPS devices, notebooks, wallets, etc. The total value of (reported) stolen luggage was CZK 63M (€2.3M) last year.

On the last Saturday, a young father wanted a group of anti-abortion fanatics yelling in front of the hospital at Obilní trh to quiet down, because they had been distubing his first-born son from sleeping. When one of the bigots asked 29yo Jiří Nepala how many abortions his wife have had, as he’s having his first kid so “late”, the passionate discussion changed into a decent clash, immediately terminated by police.

The conflict has an interesting consequence: journalist Jan Šmikmátor launched a Facebook group supporting Nepala. As of March 19, 6:15 PM, the group is having 86 members and the number is doubling every 3 hours. One of the reasons is an extreme unpopularity of the bigots protesting in front of the hospital at Obilní trh – they are disturbing tired mothers and new-born kids more than really fighting against abortions.

The “pro life” protests started six years ago and are held almost daily, at least if there is a nice
weather.

Police has published several photos of a fight between three foreign students of medicine and a man who injured them by a knife. The incident happened 10 days ago and the identity of the stabber is still unknown to police.

You can see more pictures at the news site iDnes. The gallery looks like the unknown stabber might have been defending himself; however, this needs to be proved by the investigation.

Yesterday we published an article about three medicine students stabbed on the last Saturday night. Czech media have fresh information on the attack:

• Two of the stabbed young men are from the Great Britain and one is Swede of Pakistani origin.
• The incident happened close to a pub Brooklyn. There was a birthday party of some of the most prominent Czech and Slovak neonazis and members of Workers’ Party that night.
• However, police’s spokesperson claims that the stabber looked more like a rapper than a skinhead. The racial motivation is neither confirmed nor denied by the police.
• One of the Britons (of Nigerian origin) has his liver injured and he won’t leave the hospital in next two weeks.
• The unknown man with knife speaks Czech and English.
• This is the third case of aggresion against foreign students in Brno in last 2 years.

Police is investigating an unusual event that took place at Dominikánské sq on the last Saturday night. Three foreign students were stabbed by an uknown man during a short wrestle.

According to the students, the aggressor had no reason to attack them; however, police’s spokesperson claims it is possible that the students provoked the offender.

Their injures are neither minor nor life-threating.

The uknown aggressor is approx. 20 year old, 6 feet high, short-haired and he was wearing a black coat and a baseball cap.

Birds may be the fans of the global warming after all

A man walking trough the banks of Svratka river noted a weak heron on January 14th. He called constables, which later found out that the bird had its pecker frozen.

An ornithologist cooperating with the metropolitan police rescued the heron and explained that the bird had probably attacked the ice on the frozen river, believing that releflections of street light are in fact fishes.

Two days later constables helped to rescue a duck frozen to the surface of Svitava river.

So-called whitch cursed constables, ended in asylum

A worried woman contacted the metropolitan police on January 15th, because her neighbor was destroying the equipment of their shared lobby. Constables found out that the woman was unusually agressive, spitting and kicking around and also screaming incomprehensible sentences, probably magic formulas. She smelled badly, because she was smeared with garlic. There was no other way than to contact the psychiatric hospital and transport the woman to there.

On January 20th, security guards of Vaňkovka shopping mall noticed a drunk man intentionally clashing with other people and spitting on them. The guards made him leave the mall several times, but the man kept returning. Constables later checked the identity of the nerd and found out that he was from Poland and also that he had no id.

The man is now investigated by the foreign police.

Merciful (?) death of a rat

A woman contacted the constables last weekend to tell them that her neighbour locked a rat in his closet, willing to starve it to death. Policemen arrived to the place and found out that an 67 y.o. man had really jailed a rat. He was helpless with the little intruder, so the constables advised the man to use a poison to get rid of the rodent.

Two drops of perfume are not enough

On Thursday, a young man was testing deodorants very heavily in one shop at Tkalcovská st. He emptied two packages in several minutes and then tried to leave. The boy was catched by security and later fined by police.

Donkey the traveller is back

Donkey the traveller escaped again on Monday. He was caught by a police squad and then returned to his owner.

In stolen bottles veritas!

Constables met their usual suspect not less than four times during the night between December 22nd and 23rd. 50yo woman well-known for her problems with both alcohol and law spent the night opening bottles right in markets and immediately drinking their content.
The woman will be further investigated and probably will have to pay her drinks.

The Need for speed divorce

A conflict of a separating pair led to a wild chase on December 29th. The metropolitan police was contacted by a 29yo woman driving a car a with her children in quarter Bystrc, who reported that her husband is chasing them in another vehicle.
Constables led the woman via telephone to a nearby gas station, which was quickly reached by two patrols. Metropolitan policemen solved the conflict and handed the investigation over to the state police.

Dog bit a girl right at the main station

Unknown dog bit a young woman in front of the main train station in the evening of December 30th. Because the girl had not called police immediately, the dog ran away. The girl was sent to hospital for further examination.

Homeless woman penetrated by a beer bottle in public

A half-naked woman surrounded by a group of homeless men was found by constables at Dornych st. on Sunday night. All members of the suspicious group were obviously drunk and one witness told the constables that the men had been penetrating the woman with a beer bottle.

The unconscious object of desire was transported to hospital and the incident is now investigated by police.

Donkey the traveller

The metropolitan police was contacted by a man driving throught Ořešín on Monday morning. The driver saw a donkey hanging around Klimešova st. The constables found out that the animal belongs to an inhabitant of the quater and is well known in the neighbourhood for its harmless trips.

“When the constables were leaving Ořešín, the donkey was peacefully returning to its barn,” reported the spokesperson of MP Denisa Kapitančiková.

Police car attacked by a skinhead

The Saturday night was even wilder than usual. Constables were contacted by people disturbed by a loud party held at Starobrněnská st. in the centre of Brno. The policemen found out that there were several dozens of right-wing radicals celebrating in one of the pubs, who denied to quiet down.

The conflict escalated when one of the skinheads attacked a police car. He was pursued for approx. 200 metres and then the constables had to use force to disarm him. The hooligan is now investigated by police, as well as other people involved in the loud party.
