“Transport nostalgia” on weekend, strike on Thursday

Update (Sunday, 11 a.m.): the strike was postponed to Thursday, as it was announced too late to take place on Monday and not to break the law.

Coalition of Transport Unions anounced a huge strike on Monday, June 13. This means that from 3 a.m. to 4 p.m., public transport in Brno, as well as in the rest of the Czech republic, will stay still.

I’m not a fan of this kind of protests, but at least this time the unions got an important reason. The pension reforms proposed by right-wing government mean that many people should work until 69. In some professions, uncluding tram drivers, this could be quite devastating to one’s health and even quite dangerous to other people. And starting a new blue-collar career at the age of 65 isn’t quite easy.

Read more about the strike at the website of Czech press agency.

It seems quite ironic that on Saturday and Sunday visitors of Brno may enjoy “Transport nostalghia” festival, bringing old tramways and buses back to streets. From what I’ve found out, the best place to join the event is the Technical museum.

I agree with you, this time.
Strickes are never pleasent, especially for people whom are effected by the protest, in this case commuters.
I’m one of them.
I’ll have to arrange somehow to reach my office, which is quite far, but still, I rather support workers when they try to defend their few rights.

Thank you so much for the info..I’m a foreigner in Brno and I’m a fan of this website..I wouldn’t have known about this strike if it wasn’t for you so thanks for the heads up..I support the strikers 100% ..it’s a very good reason and I hope they’ll get what they want.

I commute every day between Zlin & Brno, and while I pledge support to the strike I think Monday’s going to be one hell of a bumpy ride…
Can anyone tell me whether the strike will also affect the private coach services? I’m told Student Agency will be running but I mainly use Housacar or CSAD Vsetin buses between Zlin & Brno. As it’s the weekend I can’t call them and there’s no updated info on their websites. Any help please…?
