For the first time since 2008 a gay parade, officially called Queer Parade Brno, will take a place in Brno. Gay, lesbian and transgender people, together with their friends and supporters, are going to show their pride at Náměstí svobody sq. on Saturday, June 26, at 1 p.m.

Organisers assume that up to 1,000 participants may show up. Afterparty will be held in club Semilasso.

A disturbing thing is that the event will be accompanied by protests of a nationalistic organisation Národní odpor (National resistance) and a group of young christian democrats. It is OK for anyone to stand publicly for his or her opinions, but organisers are worried that some nationalists may try to attack the parade, which happened two years ago. Several police squads will care about everyone’s safety – yet I recommend you to be careful if you want to join the march.

The pseudo-patriotic mumpers’ orgnization “Národní odpor” (National Resistance) is better known as “Náhradní otvor”, meaning Substitute Hole. For they are mostly gay (in private, of course), as we can see on plenty of leaked photos and videos — http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-nCfdMWN_o
