Choose the Christmas tree for the central square

by Michal Kašpárek on November 10, 2009

I vote for tree #3.

I vote for tree #3.

Each year a tall Christmas tree is erected and lit at Náměstí svobody sq. Now you have the opportunity to choose which one out of four “candidates” will be chopped down and then transported to the central square.

The rules are “so 1990s” but simple: look at the four trees (1, 2, 3, 4) and then send an e-mail to strom@ticbrno.cz with the number of your favorite tree. I recommend using a Czech subject line “hlasuji pro vanocni strom cislo…”. The deadline is set to November 15.

Attention, hikers! The pages include GPS locations of the trees, so you can find them in forrests around Brno.

And what happens with the tree after Christmas?

Michal Kašpárek November 10, 2009 at 5:56 PM

Wow, I have never thought about that, Juraci. But it is a very interesting question! I will try to contact the PR department of the council of Brno to answer it.

What about a artificial Christmas tree ?! Ecological !

But not traditional and comfy :-)

Juraci, I have asked the spokeswoman of the town council about what happens to the tree after the Christmas and here is her reply:

The tree will be cut to pieces after the Christmas. The branches will be used by the management of parks and wood will be used to heat an orphanage.

Thanks for going after an answer for that! :-) I was expecting a more ecological end for the “best Christmas tree of the year”, but I understand and agree with the current usage.
