People flying a kite at Stránská skála
Flying kites is a popular autumny leisure activity in the Czech republic. If you don’t have a kite, buy one or make one.
My favorite place to go fly a kite is Stránská skála, a hillside park located in the eastern part of Brno. Here is why:
- The wind blowing at Stránská skála is usualy stronger than the wind blowing in the rest of the town, so your kite will fly better and higher.
- The place is located on the very edge of the town, so it’s easier to leave your worries behind.
- You can observe many interesting places from Stránská skála – higways, old factories, green hills, distant suburbs…

Remember that there are high rocks all over Stránská skála (“skála” means “rock” in Czech), so it’s pretty dangerous for small kids left alone or for drunk students trying to fly kites at 3 a.m.
Stránská skála can be reached by tram n. 10 and then by a short walk uphill.
Other popular places for flying kites in Brno are Kraví hora park and Palackého vrch hill.

Another popular place is Kraví hora. The hill top is just about 300m from the tram stop.
