Pope Benedict XVI
Pope Benedict XVI will celebrate the Holly Mass on Sunday, 27th September at 10:00 a.m. at the International airport in quarter Tuřany. It’s the first visit of a Pope to Brno in the history.
This means once-a-lifetime oportunity for the catholics among us, and (without willing to be mean) complications for the rest of Brno’s residents.
How to enjoy the Mass with no stress
Get to the place early (5 a.m. is just fine, no kidding) and respect the instructions from the Diocese of Brno.
How to get to the airport
- A special bus line C will go from Main station, through Zvonařka st., Tržní st., Černovičky st., Vlárská st. and some more stations right to the airport.
- Bus line P will help people to get to the place from parking lots in district Černovické terasy.
- Both lines will be free of charge.

What does the Mass mean for the rest of us?
- Highway D1, the most important road in the country, will be closed between its 196th and 203rd kilometers, from Saturday evening to Sunday evening. Simply put, it’s the passage between IKEA and the airport.
- No airplanes will fly from or to the airport between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Sunday.
- There’ll be a crowd of possibly more than 120,000 people located in the eastern part of Brno, so driving to quarters Líšeň, Slatina, Černovice etc. won’t be easy.
