The best kebab in Brno

I am a big fan of vegetarian meals, but there is one meat food I’m really passionate for: kebab.

Kebab (also occasionally transliterated as kebap, kabab, kebob, kabob, kibob, kebhav, kephav) refers to a variety of meat dishes in Mediterranean, Central Asian, South Asian and some of the African cuisines, consisting of grilled or broiled meats on a skewer or stick. Wikipedia

There are many kebab stands in Brno, some are better to be avoided, some are just fine, but one is perfect: Antalya Döner Kebap at Štefánikova st., next to popular club Fléda.

Anytime I had a kebab there, it was made of fresh and juicy meat. You can chose from beef, chicken and vegetarian variants (I don’t know how does the last one look and taste like, I feel anti-curious about vegetarian kebab). There are three sizes – middle size beef kebab costs CZK 70 (€2.60).

You can also chose from three toppings – herb sauce, garlic sauce and spicy sauce. Speaking about spicy taste…: if you dare, ask for “turbo” spice. In that case, turkish salty drink Ayran (CZK 25/€0.95) is a necessity.

It's pretty hard to open your mouth so wide. But it's worth trying!

I like the funny and friendly Turkish guys preparing the meals. I just feel sorry for the ubercool poster of turkish film director Yılmaz Güney that used to hang on one of the tiny bistro’s walls. So long, Yılmaz – and you all, afiyet olsun! (Bon apetit!)

Where are the others “many kebab stands in Brno”? I know just the one on Panská street.

There’s a fine kebab (or rather gyros) stand at Pražákova st. in southern centre (next to M-Palác tower), serving good kebab with kari rice. I’ve also seen several kebab stands in the centre, for example at Kobližná st. or next to the main station.

Thanks for the tip about Antalya Döner Kebap. I tried it the other day and it was really good. I’ll be back there for sure. Cheers!
