We have something for the creative class this week.
Chapel at Burianovo sq., in the centre of the historical village
Quick facts
Quarter Žabovřesky (“the place of loud frogs”) lies next to the town’s centre, northern of Špilberk castle and Tivoli palace. The neighbourhood is a vital mix of villas, small family houses and blocks of flats. The borough has 21,655 inhabitants.
Pros
- One of the most attractive quarters of Brno.
- Many restaurants, pubs and clubs.
- Several parks and sport facilities.
Cons
- Parking issues on some streets.
- Northern part of the quarter is being affected by a developement of a huge traffic junction at Hradecká st.
- Higher rents and house prices.
Žabovřesky are among the quarters that are offering the best examples of row housing in Brno
You will love Žabovřesky if…
…you want to live close to good restaurants and cafés and interesting clubs.
You will hate Žabovřesky if…
…you prefer industrial, “grunge-like” neighbourhoods.
Shopping facilities
There’s only one mall, at Makovského square. You can use some of the many small stores for your shopping, or take a short walk to the town’s centre.
Best restaurants
Try tiny fish restaurant Korsár at 26 Minská st. or more luxurious Rialto.

Awesome job! Please keep the district guides coming. Thanks.
I really love Žabovřesky!
When recommending restaurants, you should include address or phone number or website or SOMETHING – otherwise, great work, keep it up.
Good point, Charlie! I just forgot to add links. Fixed already.
We live near a great pub in Zabovresky, it has a short but delicious menu – if you like ribs;) Oh! They also have wonderful beer – well, it is the Czech Republic.
AMBRA
on the corner of Narozni and Kralova
I lived in Žabovřesky for about 7 months and I would say it’s nice if you have a family house, but it’s boring as hell there and there aren’t so many good restaurants and pubs. Only Mersey is decent sometimes, when they have Depeche Mode nights. I guess it’s a decent neighborhood if you work for IBM.
We have bought a property in Žabovřesky 3 years ago – a flat with nice look into the inner block garden – and we snag as bug in it.
The pubs are an issue though.
Decent food is at Korzár and nice are also kebab’s next to Mersey club.
Hotel Kozák for lunch menu is usually also OK, but don’t go to U Kyršů (corner of Tábor and Minská) – it is complete waste of money even for lunch menu. Believe me.
Blue collar workers pub (at corner of Zborovská and Tábor) is crazy smoky, but beer is quite OK and they have surprisingly good home made sausages.
If you are top side of Minská do go to Zelená kočka, but as they are getting spoiled and don’t know how to treat people do rather Šelepka No.1 which has excellent food and beer quality and friendly environment to smokers, non-smokers and families (Šelepova park next to Klusáčkova tram stop).
They are both technically in Královo pole district, but who cares…
